The general objective of the project, in which Gallanova participates as a partner, is to contribute to the modernization of chestnut trees; A traditional Galician sector of European relevance. C-SOUTO is intended to improve the efficiency and performance of endogenous resources generated from the SOUTO ecosystem and reorient them to new uses with greater added value, such as products with applications in functional nutrition for a healthier life, in line with the strategy triple FFF (feed, food and fuel).
CSOUTO allows the continuation of the line of research in the genetic improvement of disease-resistant chestnuts and the optimization of their mass production according to the PAM technology of in vitro cultivation, shortening processes and, therefore, reducing costs of production.
The project is funded by the CONECTA-PEME program, aimed at promoting cooperation between SMEs and other agents of the Regional Innovation System through support for market-oriented research and innovation projects aligned with the challenges and priorities of RIS3 for Galicia. , co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) within the FEDER Galicia 2014-2020 operational program.
